“We support people with disabilities to live in the community,work and have opportunities for education.” This is Casa Allegra’s mission and dream. Casa Allegra is a nonprofit organization that helps mentally and physically challenged adults.One of the founders of Casa Allegra realized that institutions are not only gloomy places but are also often lonely environments.This was her calling, and it would end up changing lives.The organization was founded by two women in 1975.With a CAN DO attitude they have brightened people’s lives for an astonishing 31 years.Not only do they have a residential program, but there is also a day program with 19 people.However, with the high cost of Marin’s real estate, the three homes that are occupied by 18 residents make it hard to keep the organization running.Volunteers are always needed, and volunteers only do what they are comfortable with: from decorating for the holidays, to maintenance, to just making a friend. One might say that all these people want in life is just a good friend.
