The Boko One Stop Center is a free school in Tanzania providing primary and secondary education to impoverished students. It is the country’s only free high school. Unlike the rest of the country, all fees from tuition to pencils are covered at Boko, allowing children in poverty an opportunity to learn. The Boko School is in a small village outside of the capital, Dar es Salaam. In the heat, students pack into three small classrooms with no proper windows, desks, white boards, etc. Four teachers take turns teaching classes in Swahili, English, science, math, history, and other normal classes. Since 90% of these students have lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS, the Boko One Stop Center also provides students with lessons from the Tanzanian Teens Against AIDS program. 275 students currently attend the school, but over 900 are on the waiting list to get accepted! With our help, the Boko One Stop Center will be able to build more rooms, put in a clean well, sanitation facilities, hire more teachers, buy new textbooks, and most importantly, educate more children!
