Every Dollar Feeds Kids (EDFK) originated in The First Congregational Church of San Rafael, after a group from the congregation took a trip to Cuernavaca,Mexico.They saw children living in very poor conditions and were inspired to help. EDFK works cooperatively with the nonprofit organization VAMOS! and the two together support more than eighty educational, health, and nutrition projects throughout Mexico. EDFK provides food for many of the feeding and nutritional programs of VAMOS! They think it’s important to first provide healthy nutrition before the educational aspect. One of their mottos is “When they are very, very hungry, they just don't learn.” They believe in a system where children earn what they want. For example, children are awarded golden stars in school, and once they have a certain amount they are able to pick out new shoes.This organization not only helps children, but workers and street vendors,women and mothers.Most of the fundraising comes from donations from their church members, and fundraising from events such as auctions. Every Dollar Feeds Kids think they should “open their heart to be compassionate about people who have less than we do” by supporting, feeding, and educating children.
