International Medical Corps (IMC) is a private, voluntary, non-political and non-sectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health projects assigned to poorer areas worldwide. In order to fulfill their mission, they give training and healthcare to local people as well as medical assistance to high-risk patients, and they respond quickly to emergency situations. They rehabilitate healthcare systems, making them self-reliant. Dr. Robert Simon and other volunteers, hoping to declare a new kind of relief agency in the form of providing healthcare through training, established IMC in 1984. IMC responds to all types of emergencies including natural disasters and wars. For instance, after the tsunami that hit Thailand, Indonesia and other countries during the Christmas season of 2004, they were among the first ones to respond. They have a different approach to relief by teaching local people to establish self-reliant medical systems, rather than relying on other countries' support. Young people can help IMC by spreading the word, fundraising (bake sales, car washes, etc.) and understanding the different conflicts around the world. IMC appreciates donations of all sizes; every dollar makes a difference. Every day, IMC is making a difference in the world, helping each community one by one.
