YOUTHGIVE @ Philanthropy Summit

YouthGive helped design a workshop on Youth Philanthropy for the Council on Foundations’ historic 2008 conference: Philanthropy’s Vision: A Leadership Summit to be held on May 4-7 in Washington, DC.

YouthGive, led by Shirley Fredericks, Chair of the YouthGive Los Angeles Advisory Committee, designed the session entitled Seeding Our Future: Growing the Next Generation of Givers. YouthGive co-Founder Jenny Yancey will speak about YouthGive and the power of youth philanthropy. She will be joined on the panel by YouthGive National Advisor Tracy Gary, author and founder of Inspired Legacies.

Session Description: Seeding Our Future: Growing the Next Generation of Givers

The future of philanthropy, and the emerging wealth transfer, will be shaped by how well our field inspires and engages the next generation of givers. Over the past 10 years, there has been an explosive growth in youth philanthropy and next-generation programs that seek to democratize giving and groom future grantmakers. In this “talk show” session, highlighted by personal stories of youth giving, thought leaders and practitioners will discuss best practices and creative programs for young people to engage in philanthropy, and how the foundation world can further support this vital movement.
