The Bear Spot Foundation uses horses to provide psychotherapy in a safe and nurturing environment for children in need. There are eight students at the Bear Spot Foundation that have special needs, such as eating disorders, depression, OCD, and ADHD. The foundation plays an important role in patients’ lives because they need to stay active, even with their disabilities. The Bear Spot Foundation is run by Jane Karol, a psychotherapist and accomplished dressage rider. The patients range from age five to 18.The Bear Spot Foundation has one horse and one pony. All of the workers who spend time with the patients are paid, but volunteers are needed. “Teenagers can help with fundraisers by making posters and flyers to get the word out,” says Jane Karol, the program founder. The foundation is looking for donations for the horses, for veterinary care, and every day needs. Donations will not only benefit the program but support research into the topic of horse psychotherapy and research to help find a cure for the diseases that challenge students.
